Lebanon occupies an important place in the processes taking place in the Middle East today. It is no exaggeration to say that the struggle of Israel with the Palestinian Arabs has engulfed the entire Arab and Muslim world. Lebanon, like other Arab countries, is going through the most difficult period in its history. But it was not always so. There were times when peace and security reigned in Lebanon, since the Lebanese people were not homogeneous in their composition. People of different nationalities and religions lived here. This diversity of the population played an important role in shaping the main characteristics of today's Lebanon. A deep study of the historical development of the various communities existing in Lebanon helps to understand the realities of today's Lebanon. In this regard, the presented article deserves attention. The article examines the problems of identification of the Lebanese Maronite community. The author gives a brief description of the main conceptual approaches to the identification of the Maronite community. Particular attention is paid to the changes that have occurred in Lebanon's foreign policy over the past decades.
